Apply to be a retailer
Sask Lotteries is the provincial sales and marketing arm for the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) in the province. All agreements with retailers to sell and distribute lottery products within the province are held between Sask Lotteries and the businesses within the retail network. WCLC also includes Alberta, Manitoba, the Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
Lottery products available with the WCLC regions include DAILY GRAND, LOTTO MAX, LOTTO 6/49, WESTERN 649, WESTERN MAX, POKER LOTTO and ALL IN, EXTRA, PICK 2, PICK 3, PICK 4, SPORT SELECT, KENO, LIGHTNING LOTTO and a variety of SCRATCH & WIN games.
Retailers who sell lottery products are called Sask Lotteries’ LottoSpot Retailers and are part of the Sask Lotteries Retail Network.
What is needed for your retail location to become a retailer
- Your business must be registered with Saskatchewan Information Services Corporation office. Contact 1.866.275.4721 or visit isc.ca to register.
- Your location must be open be on Saturday and/or Sunday.
- At least a minimum of a two-foot-wide counter area for the lottery ticket terminal, printer and bar code reader, as well as space for an on-counter merchandiser for Scratch & Win tickets. Space is also needed for a table to hold selection slips, winning numbers and sports betting odds.
- Two sources of power supply are needed for the lottery ticket terminal and the customer ticket checker.
Steps to become a Sask Lotteries LottoSpot Retailer
Fill out the online application form providing as much detail as possible, including photos of your retail location.
Once your application is received, Sask Lotteries will contact you to schedule a review of your location by a Lottery Account Representative. The timeline on the scheduling of this review is dependent on your location in the province and could take longer than three weeks to schedule.
Your application, including the location review, will be taken to the Retailer Review Committee. The Retailer Review Committee meets regularly. You will be notified whether you have received conditional approval, or have been declined.
Installation will be scheduled and further paperwork will be processed with the location’s applicant. From time of conditional approval, the process can take four to six weeks.
What is expected once you are approved as a retailer
- A $5,000 security deposit to be held on account via irrevocable letter of credit from the banking institution of your choice, a certified cheque/bank draft or interac e-transfer.
- Completion of an Authorized for PreArranged Payment form for a bank account that weekly lottery invoice amounts will be automatically withdrawn.
- Signature on a Retailer Agreement and Code of Conduct that sets out the rules and regulations of the selling of lottery products by WCLC and Sask Lotteries.
- Projected annual ticket sales of $36,000 to continue being a retailer.
Benefits of being a retailer
- All retailers receive sales commission for all lottery products of five per cent.
- All retailers receive redemption commission of winning tickets (up to and including $1,000) of two per cent.
- Part of a retail network that helps build the Saskatchewan community. Proceeds from the sale of lottery products are given to sport, culture and recreation groups across the province.
